It’s that time of year again! The Christmas tree is up, holiday traditions begin, and visions of Santa Claus surround us! My favorite holiday books for kids come out of their boxes! One of my favorite activities at home and in the classroom is pulling out the Christmas board books and getting ready for read aloud time. Board books, picture books, chapter books – such a great way to spend time with your little ones. Whether you check them out from the library or purchase them to keep from year to year, enjoy the following list of our favorite Christmas books and feel free to comment with your personal favorites!

My Favorite Holiday Books for Kids – Board Books

Little Blue Truck is a classic choice for any baby or preschooler and this is one of my favorites in the series. The story follows Little Blue Truck as he delivers Christmas trees to all of his friends to spread Christmas cheer. Perfect for little fingers and bright illustrations, your toddler will love this new classic.

Llama Llama Jingle Bells is from another classic series by Anna Dewdney. Lllama Llama is definitely a series of the best kids’ books in our household. Our one year old loves this rhyming adventure of Llama Llama in this whimsical story as he experiences many new Christmas joys during the Christmas season. Enjoy this entire board book series from Anna Dewdney.

Christmas in the Manger by Nola Buck is a sweet little board board that introduces young ones to the Christmas story of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus and the first Christmas night. This one is the perfect way to tell the true Christmas story of God’s great gift to young readers. A classic in our family for the littlest readers!

You know I can’t make a list of children’s books without something by Sandra Boynton! Merry Christmas Little Pookie is the story of Pookie and his mom getting ready for Christmas, full of holiday spirit and holiday cheer. This is one of the best children’s books to read with your little one during this special holiday season.

First 100 Christmas Words by Roger Priddy is a great book for connecting holiday vocabulary to pictures during the days of Christmas. I love watching our baby start to understand words through these types of books!

Perfect for December 24th, The Night Before Christmas has the classic lyrical text that a wide range of kids and adults love! From the poetry of Clement C. Moore, Jan Brett’s beautiful illustrations make this a great gift for anyone in your family.

I love ANY book by Jan Brett. Her illustrations are beautiful and the stories are timeless. These books will grow with your child, as there may be more text than many other board books, but all children will love the illustrations. These are also available for older children as picture books. These are definitely on my list of best kids’ books for the holidays!

If you have a Peppa Pig lover in your house, this one may be a hit! I think it may be required to read it in an English accent. 🙂 We enjoy the dialect and traditions from different cultures, so this one checks the box for England!

I mean, who doesn’t love If You Give a Mouse a Cookie books? Here is a Christmas spin from Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond – another holiday classic!

I hope you found this list of favorite holiday board books for kids helpful for you and your baby! Please see my other posts for more ideas for picture books and chapter books for the holidays.
