Nothing says fall like fresh apples especially recipes for apple cookies, cakes or pies. This easy apple cinnamon cookie for toddlers recipe comes from my mother in law, one of my favorite bakers. My girls and I love to spend time with her kitchen, and since we live quite a distance from her and my father in law, we take advantage of our cooking time. Even we can’t be together, it always helps to pull out a recipe like this one for apple cinnamon cookies that reminds us of familiar smells and tastes, especially around the holidays.

What ingredients are in Apple Cinnamon Cookies for Toddlers?

This simple cookie dough calls for all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ground cloves, nutmeg, butter, brown sugar, egg, milk, chopped fresh apples (diced apples), and chopped raisins. You can also add chopped walnuts, if there are no allergies or if you are not specifically making them for babies or toddlers.

How do you prepare easy Apple Cinnamon cookies for toddlers?

To prep these delicious cookies, finely chop apples and raisins. Granny Smith apples work well for this recipe. Sift the flour mixture of all purpose flour, baking soda, salt, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg, each.

Make sure to sift the dry ingredients well before combining with the wet ingredients. If you do not have a sifter on hand, simply use a fork to break up the dry ingredients. Also, make sure your baking soda is fresh so it will do its baking job properly. Check here for some info from thekitchn.com on how to test your baking soda.

Cream melted butter and sugar together. Add one large egg and beat until fluffy.

Alternate adding flour mixture and milk to sugar mixture and mix well.

Add fruits (and nuts, if using) gently into cookie mixture. Stir gently to encourage soft cookies and cake-like cookies.

Cover cookie sheet or baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper or a silicone mat.

Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Cool on a wire rack and allow them to come to room temperature before storing them in an airtight container.

Feel free to make this recipe your own with a variety of dried fruits and nuts. I especially love these with a hot cup of coffee. They might even pass as a good substitute for a healthy breakfast, don’t you think? They are also great to pack for easy school lunches or an after school snack.
