Is Disney cold in March?
In general, temperatures in the Orlando area stay fairly temperate in March. It is a wonderful time to visit the Disney parks before the hot days of the summer months settle in. The average high temperatures vary from 75 to 80 degrees.
During the month of March, the average lows are around 56 to 61 degrees. Florida weather typically doesn’t really get to be “cold weather” during the winter months or the spring months. During your Disney vacation, you can expect warm weather with some cooler mornings and perhaps some chilly nights.
I usually advise clients to pack some long sleeves for layering in March. A light jacket is a good addition to your Disney packing list. If you check the weather forecast and see cooler temperature for your travel dates, throw in some long pants as well. From my personal experiences, it is better to pack some layering pieces and not need them than to have to purchase unplanned souvenir sweatshirts from the parks or your Disney World resort.
Can you swim at Disney World in March?
Check the weather forecast for Central Florida on your particular dates, but swimming is definitely possible in March in Orlando. Include a bathing suit and flip-flops in your Disney packing list if you plan to visit the Disney water parks, Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon.
Also, Walt Disney Resort pools remain heated throughout the year so you can plan on swimming on sunny days this time of year.
Also, consider packing flip-flops or a poncho for water rides like Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom. It makes it easy to make a quick change afterward.
Does it rain at Disney World in March?
Rainy days in Central Florida are a possibility, even in the spring and summer months. Weather conditions can change quickly. Keeping a poncho, small umbrella, or rain jacket in your bag for sudden rain showers is always a great idea. Being wet all day in the Disney World theme parks can make for a very long day. Though it is not hurricane season during March, a little rain can even come to the most magical place on Earth!
You may also want to bring a change of clothes for yourself and your little ones. I usually keep these in a Ziploc gallon bag to keep them dry.
Comfortable Shoes
Packing comfortable shoes is essential is an amusement park, especially one as big as Disney World! You will be doing a LOT of walking, so be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes. Your best bet is to pack shoes that you have worn before to prevent blisters. It is not a good time to purchase brand-new shoes, attempting to break them in on your vacation.
I also suggest that you pack at least two pairs of shoes, so you can alternate during your trip. My Brooks tennis shoes and Teva sandals were the best options for me on my last Walt Disney World vacation.
Refillable Water Bottle
Always pack a refillable water bottle for Disney World. You can grab a free cup of ice water from any quick service location in the Disney parks. Just ask Guest Services (customer service) if you need help finding water in the parks. Stay hydrated!
Do you need sunscreen at Disney World in March?
Yes! You need to wear sunscreen at Disney World in March. Even during the spring months, the sun can do a number on your skin. You will be out in the sun for hours at a time on a Disney World vacation, so be sure to throw it in your suitcase and your park bag.
You can find sunscreen for sale at the Disney World resorts or in the parks if you happen to leave it behind.
Are there special events at Disney World in March?
My favorite special event going on at Disney World in March is the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival. This is a lovely event in Epcot with beautiful topiaries, lovely displays, gardening seminars, and a special concert series.
You can also enjoy Epcot’s Easter Egg-Stravanza during March. You can purchase a map for $6.99 and locate eggs throughout the park with your favorite characters.
Of course, you will also find a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Disney Springs’ Raglan Road. This is a week-long party with Irish music, dancing, face painting, and celebrating!
What are the crowds like at Disney World during March?
Consider checking crowd calendars for Disney World in March. Early March tends to be less crowded but if Easter falls during March, crowds will definitely pick up. Some schools have spring break vacations in March, so that will also increase the number of people at the resorts and in the parks.
From mid-March to the end of the month, it is a great idea to have a plan for the parks. Consider getting to the parks early and taking a break after lunch, if the crowds are too high. Return later in the day to avoid the heat of the day and the peak crowds.
Should you purchase Genie+ during the month of March?
I do recommend that clients check crowd calendars for their trips in March and consider purchasing Genie+. During busy times, it can be such a big help to skip the lines and move more quickly from ride to ride. It is particularly helpful in Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. Popular rides like Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Rise of the Resistance can quickly form long lines, so purchasing Genie+ can help you move through the park faster.
If you are not familiar, Genie+ is a paid service from Disney that can be purchased in the My Disney Experience app. Prices vary from about $15-29 per ticket, per day. This is on top of your regular ticket price.
You can add Genie+ to your ticket any time from midnight onward on the day of your visit. Beginning at 7 am, you can make your first selection for Genie+ for your specific park. You can make your next selection after you scan in for your first ride. Or, if your return time is later in the day, you can make your second selection two hours after the park opens.
For each of the most popular rides in each park, you can also purchase an Individual Lightning Lane. This is a separate a la carte purchase for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Magic Kingdom, Rise of the Resistance in Hollywood Studios, Avatar Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom, and Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind in Epcot. Prices fluctuate based on date and demand.
