If you are planning a Disney trip soon, you may be considering adding on Disney’s travel protection policy to your vacation package before you step foot in the Magic Kingdom. A Disney World vacation is not inexpensive, so it is always a good idea to consider your trip cost and think about adding trip insurance to give you some peace of mind. Keep reading to discover the answers to the most common questions on Disney insurance policies I get as a travel agent specializing in Disney vacations.
How much does Disney travel insurance cost?
At the current time, Disney travel insurance costs a flat rate of $95.00 per adult and is free for children. This insurance is underwritten through the Arch Insurance Company. The policy is only available to U.S. residents. Disney’s travel protection plan can be added up to the final payment date on Disney packages. Disney packages are due paid in full 30 days before your travel start date. The rate for Disney insurance will be added to the overall cost of your Disney package.
Disney packages typically combine a stay at a Disney resort with park tickets. Packages can also include Memory Maker (the photo package) and travel protection.
If you purchase your Disney theme park tickets separately from your Walt Disney World resort, you can ask to make your room-only reservation into a package. If you do this, you can add Disney’s travel insurance. However, it will also make your final payment due 30 days prior to your visit versus the room-only policy of payment due at check-in.
What is covered by Disney Travel Protection?
Disney’s insurance covers you if your Disney vacation is you have trip cancellation or trip interruption for a covered reason. If you need to cancel for a covered reason, you can receive a full refund for the travel package, including insurance for any air travel scheduled within 7 days of your trip. Covered reasons include illness, injury, and some non-medical reasons like job loss, military service, jury duty, and others.
Insurance coverages from Aon Affinity for your Disney vacation also include trip interruption, trip delay and baggage loss and delays, baggage protection, and medical expenses protection. Disney travel insurance covers any emergency medical transportation or emergency evacuation needed during your trip, should the need arise. Disney’s vacation protection plan also covers any rental car damage incurred on your trip.
Be sure to check Disney’s website on travel protection for the latest info. Select your state of residence to read full detailed terms on the policy from AID Affinity Travel Insurance, Disney’s dedicated travel insurance company. Only you can decide on the best travel insurance for each family member on your vacation.
Is Disney Travel Protection refundable?
Adding Disney’s Travel Protection is an additional cost for your vacation. Though it may add to an already costly trip, it can help protect your trip investment. Once it is paid for, travel protection can only be refunded 14 days after payment. After those 14 days, the cost of the travel protection is one of your non-refundable trip elements.
Can you add travel protection after booking Disney?
You can add Disney’s vacation protection plan up until your final payment date. If you book a package at Disney World, that payment will be due 30 days before your vacation.
What is Disney’s normal cancellation policy?
Disney’s cancellation policy is currently the following. Disney packages can be modified or canceled 30+ days or more in advance of your visit. Full payment on Disney packages is due 30 days prior to your trip mark.
Between 2-29 days before your visit, a cancellation fee of $200 per package will be applied.
For cancellations 1 day or less prior to your visit, the full package price will be charged.
Does Disney offer travel insurance for other locations?
You can purchase travel insurance plans for all Disney U.S. theme parks locations, including Disneyland, Aulani, and Disney Cruise Line. Disney Cruise Line has different regulations for their insurance policies, so be sure to check the DCL website for more info.
What if there is a hurricane predicted?
According to Disney, if the National Hurricane Center issues a hurricane warning for Orlando or your residence within 7 days of your trip, you can call Disney to reschedule or cancel your hotel packages with no penalty.
Do I have to purchase Disney travel insurance?
You do not have to purchase Disney travel insurance or any travel insurance at all. However, I do encourage clients to check out a few travel insurance plans to price out options. Many credit cards offer some coverage for travel, so consider that as well. Of course, your willingness to take the risk of traveling without travel insurance depends on your budget and your plans. If you are planning a trip with six-day theme park tickets with a seven-night stay at Disney’s opulent Grand Floridian resort during the most popular days during the week of Christmas – buy some insurance! Even with the most stable income stream, you will want a way to protect your investment.
